MISSION STATEMENT:

TO HEIGHTEN THE AWARENESS AND APPRECIATION OF JEWISH IDENTITY AND MORAL VALUES.

Chabad of Cape Town is a vibrant Jewish community centre. It is part of a world- wide network of non- profit educational and social welfare institutions dedicated to the vision of the Lubavitcher Rebbe- the making of this world into a better place; through increasing awareness of moral and spiritual values.

Sent by the Lubavitcher Rebbe in 1976 Rabbi Mendel and Avigail Popack came to the shores of Cape Town to promote Jewish ideals. The Chabad centre situated in Sea Point was founded in 1982 and subsequently moved location following a devastating fire in 1992, establishing its new premises at 20 St. Johns Rd Sea Point.

Today it is the hub of activity, educating both young and old guiding people to strengthen their Jewish identity through camps, conventions, educational classes, prayer groups, community services, prevention and intervention counselling, hospital and sick visitation programmes etc.

Rabbi Popack, a graduate of the Rabbinical College of America, attributes the success of Chabad to the fact

that "our doors are always open". Our motto is the care and concern with each and every Jew sensitising

them to their heritage .This in turn enables them to succeed in their personal lives and to make the world a better place for all.
